Rimfire Bench Rest Matches

The club will be holding several 22 Rimfire Benchrest matches in 2012. Matches are 25 shots (printable practice target) in 20 minutes from the bench at 50 yards. The cost to shoot is $5.00 per target for adults and no charge to junior shooters under the age of 18. We are sanctioned to hold officially recognized American Rimfire Association matches.

The ARA rules are very open, essentially shoot what you brung.  This includes any old Marlin tube fed bolt action to radical looking rail guns.  Scoring is unconventional in that the worst edge of the bullet is used, not the best edge as in nearly every other discipline.  Worst edge scoring means the bullet hole must be entirely within the lines for that score, or you get the lower score.

Classes (details below) are designed to place competitors on an equal footing.

ARA Rimfire Benchrest Classes

Unlimited Class

Rifles - Any firearm chambered for the .22 Long Rifle cartridge may be used. There are no weight limits, no classes, and no dimensional restrictions to barrels, stocks, or limits on scope magnification.

Rests - Any rest may be used to shoot from the bench, so long as any such rest prevents the barreled action from being affixed to the bench in an immovable manner.

Sporter Class

Rifles - Any firearm chambered for the .22 Long Rifle cartridge may be used. Unlimited Scope Power. Gun and Scope shall weigh 8.5 lbs or under. No electronic or mechanically assisted triggers are permitted. Rifle must be a repeater and must be able to hold 2 or more rounds in a removable clip/magazine except for tubular fed rifles. Rounds may be fed into the chamber either by hand or from the magazine. Stock must be made of wood. Maximum stock width shall be 2.25” at the widest point of the stock. The bottom of the stock that comes into contact with the rest must be convex. The convexity must be across the entire width of the stock. This applies to the forend and the butt of the stock.

Rests - One-Piece or two-piece rests are allowable of any material. Rest may not be attached to the bench. Rifle may not be attached to the rest nor the bench in any fashion that would impede the recoil of the rifle or return the rifle to battery.

Rimfire Bench Rest League

We are starting Rimfire Bench Rest Leagues, they will be run using the ARA target (printable practice target by using the ESC key) and ARA classes.  There will be two leagues, one for Unlimited and another for Sporter using the ARA class rules.  The ARA rules are very open, essentially shoot what you brung.  This includes any old Marlin tube fed bolt action to radical looking rail guns.  Scoring is unconventional in that the worst edge of the bullet is used, not the best edge as in nearly every other discipline.  Worst edge scoring means the bullet hole must be entirely within the lines for that score, or you get the lower score.

• The course of fire will be 10 targets in approximately 6 weeks. 
• Monday night (4:00 PM till sunset) will be the official league night BUT you can shoot the targets any time of your choosing. 
• We will issue pre-numbered targets of record for the league. 
• Scoring will be the same as the ARA matches. 
• Cost to shoot in the league will be $5.00 registration plus $5.00 for the 10 targets.
• Start date will be May 1st and end on June 18th.
